CMMA Expands Panel with the Esteemed Hon. Timothy Hillman, Ret., Former U.S. District Judge
Worcester, MA – CMMA Dispute Resolution Services proudly announces that Retired United States District Judge Timothy S. Hillman has joined its distinguished panel of neutrals, bringing the firm’s total to ten experienced neutrals. This milestone further solidifies CMMA's reputation as a leading provider of dispute resolution services across Massachusetts and beyond.
Judge Hillman’s legal career spans over five decades, reflecting his deep commitment to justice, public service, and legal excellence. After earning his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in 1973, he began as an Assistant District Attorney in Worcester County in 1975. He then spent more than 25 years in private practice, concentrating on civil and criminal litigation and representing municipalities.
In 1991, Hillman began his judicial career in the Massachusetts Trial Court, serving in both the District and Superior Court Departments. He was appointed as a United States Magistrate Judge in 2006, and in November 2011, President Obama nominated him as a United States Federal District Court judge, whereafter, Judge Hillman was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on June 4, 2012, with a bipartisan vote of 88–1.
During his time on the bench, Judge Hillman presided over a wide range of complex civil matters, including civil rights, employment law, personal injury, class actions, and federal labor law. He also served for over five years on the federal multidistrict litigation panel, and as a Magistrate Judge, he mediated hundreds of cases.
Judge Hillman officially retired from the federal judiciary in July 2024. Most recently, he was appointed National Election Supervisor for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters 2025–26 international elections, reflecting his continued dedication to impartial oversight and public trust.
